As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time. You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You'll fight with your best friend. You'll blame a new love for things an old one did. You'll cry because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back. Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin.
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.
I’m not a committed football fan, but I do love the excitement and anticipation of a really good game between two good teams. In the last three weeks I’ve had the pleasure of seeing 3 such games. I think I really started rooting for the Giants after watching their overtime win in the playoff game. What a win it was. But then I’ve always sort of rooted for the so-called underdogs. Maybe because I’ve been one myself so often. Maybe I also wanted to see these transplanted NY Giants, now claimed by New Jersey (hey, it IS Giant’s Stadium after all) as their own because I’m also a transplant.
It would have been a nice coup for the Patriots to pull down that unbroken winning season, but it was not to be, so the record of the Miami Dolphins still stands. Yet, in all honesty my heart was with the Giants. What can I say about this Super Bowl? I loved it. Manning to Tyrell to score and then, with seconds to spare, a perfect pass by Manning to a perfect catch by Burress sealed the victory for the NY Giants. Not a classic “Hail Mary” pass, but it sure did the trick. I remember one of those many years ago by the Rams in the last few seconds of one of their games to win, but that’s another story. (Now, how’s that for dating myself?) To answer that earlier big question, it’s now certain, the Giants wanted it more!
This was a super win. The Giants played hard, they worked beautifully as a team…and they earned their well deserved victory. I’m not sure how many fans noticed, but it felt good for me on a personal level, to see Burress kneel and bow his head briefly after that great TD. It felt good to hear him, teary and emotional, and another player interviewed later, give praise and thanks to God for their victory.
